Help! Help! I'm getting sucked in by the Leave Britney Alone vortex!

Hello all! I know, I know. This "Leave Britney Alone!" thing is getting out of hand, maybe a little stale. But I found a couple of funny little clips that I just had to post!

This clip has some offensive subject matter. This guy says some really hateful, crappy stuff, exaggerating, distorting the news to try and give his side about illegal immigrants. I go and check out the racist anti-immigrant clips on YouTube (and piss 'em off with with witty comments!) and this is one of the worst of the worst I have found. Thing is, he's inadvertently funny! He doesn't mean to be funny, www.theguyfromboston.com/ he just is! He's a caricature of some of the best movie characters we have all seen and loved! This guy nearly has a heart attack in this rant, going cross-eyed with his fervor.

Uhhmm. This one defies description. Lets just say that it is a social commentary from a rapper that really goes against the current grain in rap/hip-hop. (see my last post about 50 and Kanye)
I usually don't like rap that uses the "N-word" but this one, I don't know. Its saying something, that's for sure.

I was just reading about an organization's ad put out to denounce the MoveOn ad about General Petraeus' remarks our progress in Iraq and I thought-the righties in this country sure overuse the word freedom! It has been used by Sean Hannity: his so-called "Freedom Concerts" Ted Nugent at the infamous "suck on my machine gun" concert, and countless right-leaning organizations old and new.
Look we get it. You are for "freedom." It just seems its not the freedom most Americans think of when they think of freedom. www.prospect.org/cs/articles?articleId=11705 Certainly not freedom to protest, dissent or just be in the same room as policies that are killing our young men and women in the military www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/26722 almost every day are debated or discussed. Other freedoms most Americans hold dear, like the belief that other countries' freedom from repressive regimes means more freedom for America have not been given the same air time as "their freedom" (see Nicaragua, El Salvador, SE Asia, etc etc.) The people we have installed in other countries by our "freedom lovers" are not the most freedom-lovin' dudes you ever saw.
The word freedom seems to be held in low regard by these guys. It shouldn't. It's our greatest strength as a country-when certain people aren't trying to take it away.

Some quick thoughts

I 've got music on my mind right now with all the stuff about the MTV VMA's. I can't stop thinking about how music has changed. I know this makes me sound old, but I remember when music, even pop music seemed to be more meaningful. Don't get me wrong, there are some great artists out there who put out some good music that makes you think while you are jamming, grooving, or dancing to their music, but some of the people at the VMA's this year are poor excuses for talent.

I used to really like rap a lot in the days of Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, KRS-One, ErikB and Rakim, and of course my favorite rap group, Public Enemy. I don't see any of the same insight and deep thinking and even good beats nowadays that I heard from the "old" rappers. Maybe Common, Mos Def and a few others but many rappers seem to be of the "bling" variety-

Getting back to the basics: Clips Comics and Comedians

With the campaigning for the 2008 Presidential election heating up, I predict that we will probably see more of the scripted, rehearsed infomercials for the Republican/Bush administration/stay in Iraq point of view described in the following clip. This incident, falsely billed as a casual, off the cuff conversation between Bush and the troops via video teleconference in October 2005, was beautifully and hilariously broken down by The Daily Show folks.

Remember the Gong Show? Who doesn't huh? Anyway I remember the show always had The Unknown Comic on and he was so bad he was good!

And lastly, I have been working in the backyard all this weekend and boy do we have a case of black widow-itis! Geez! They are all over the place! I usually don't kill them-I try and take them to a safer area away from everything else, like in a corner or something or in the field next to our house, but this time, there were too many. I had to kill a few of them! Thinking of all those widows gave me the idea for this comic. Hope you like it! I did a crappy job on it, I know!

Discussions of war, peace, Miss Teen SC, and of course, cartoons!

With all the trouble in the world, its nice sometimes to have music that reaches deep within you so that you may have some solace, new ideas, new energy, and some peace of mind. That music may have some answers outlined-words like "revolution," "impeach," "stop the war," may be bandied about. Sometimes though, music doesn't have any of the answers to the questions in life that you seek. Like this little ditty from Hugh Laurie, called "All We Gotta Do." Man, this is deep!

Amid all the hubbub about Miss Teen South Carolina, we forget that there have been other examples of difficulty speaking during other pageants. This contestant from Hawaii stands out. Did I mention she's from Hawaii?

Poor Miss Teen South Carolina. She's had a really hard time explaining herself! With all the commotion, no one has bothered to think about her parents. Here they are during the fateful question posed to their daughter.

Ha ha! Jimmy Kimmel had a great technical breakdown of what poor Caitlin said.

I love these cartoonists! This first cartoon is by a guy named John McPherson, whose type of one-panel style strip suggests Far Sidian comparisons, and I do believe he is probably influenced by Gary Larson's work. He does not tend to do as much animal kingdom themes as did Larson, it seems. His work can stand alone-its some funny stuff! He does some good stuff! Here's a funny one from a few days ago! Top 5 People I Can't Stand

Hi everybody. Happy Labor Day Weekend. Thought I'd do a light-hearted post for this weekend.

About dislike. About loathing.

I thought I'd let you all know what I thought of 5 people who...(cue ominous-sounding music):

I Very, Very Strongly Dislike: (in no order of importance)

(I don't know, I just picked these people somewhat spontaneously. The parameters are: just thinking of these people brings a feeling of revulsion. I don't know...maybe I would pick 2-3 different people at another time...maybe this is dumb...What do you people think of these particular people?)

1. Dennis Miller:

I kinda liked Dennis Miller when he was on SNL. He did the news well and his wit and acerbic observations were great for that segment.

Now that he has become a right wing hack, shreddingradio.com/miller.html he's not funny. He claims that 9-11 made him the way he is, but somehow the shtick he does isn't funny when he just re-hashes FOX News segments.

2. Dr. Laura Schlessinger:

Ughh! What can I say about this cold cold woman? Why anyone would want to call and ask for this ice princess' advice is beyond me. The way she addresses those who call in to her show with such venom and disdain is at once pathetic and cruel.

3. James Dobson:

I really can' t stand "Dr" James Dobson. Everyone who doesn't believe like him is considered evil. With the buffoon we have for our President, its no wonder jokers like Dobson have such influence in our government. 4. Two-way tie-Joe Rogan and Carlos Mencia:

I realize that most people seem to dislike Carlos Mencia more than Joe Rogaine. Yes, there does seem to be a pattern of joke thievery with Carlos. But then again, I would think all comedians take a little from each other now and then. They want to go for commonalities within people and that's where the sameness and thus similarities in the material they use comes in. What I don't like about Carlos is his angry, vicious humor, the mean-spirited racial jokes, and also the imitating of people with special needs are way over the top for me.

Joe Rogaine is just so full of himself that in almost every photo of him on the Internet, he's got that stupid smug smile on his face with the one eyebrow raised. He tries to be a tough guy, but just comes off like he's trying to ingratiate himself with real tough guys. 5. Ted Nugent:

Ted Nugent. What a guy, huh? Makes all sorts of veiled threats towards Demos and then claims that his comments were just jokes. Come on! (nudge nudge) That shit is funny! Its just a rock and roll show. I don't think he should be arrested or anything for what he said during those shows, but if the shoe was on the other foot, and a band said something about Bush and Co., you know he would be asking to be in firing squad. Ted Nugent is appearing in ABQ tonight. Just saw what the jerk said at a recent concert in Anaheim from American Scot http://americanscot.blogspot.com/2007/08/maybe-hell-accidentally-shoot-himself.html. You know, as I was growing up, learning how to play guitar, I kinda liked Nugent. He was (and I guess still is) a pretty good guitarist. Somewhere along the line though, he transformed into this raging, crap-spewer that I can't stand. I will not listen to his music because of his extreme views on most everything. Even the old stuff. So, in honor of Nutcase Nugent live in concert here in my own town, here is a little cartoon. We can only dream...thanks, American Scot for the idea!
